Anam’s ANTISpam will Enhance Asiacell’s Ability to detect and Block Spam Traffic Hitting the Network
Dublin, IRELAND – Sulaimanya-Iraq – March 18 2014: Anam Technologies, a mobile messaging software solutions provider for mobile operators, has today announced that they have been selected by Asiacell, a leading provider of quality mobile telecommunications services in Iraq, to provide its SMS Firewall service ANTISpam. The service was selected by Asiacell to enhance the operator’s ability to detect and block spam traffic from entering its network and protect its customers from receiving spam messages. Anam will partner with local company, Iraqcom Technologies, to deliver the solution and provide Asiacell with a full suite of support services.
Anam’s ANTISpam service detects and blocks spam messages, which can take the form of messages from an anonymous or faked sender and often asks customers to reply to expensive, premium rate numbers, or messages that the customer views as offensive. Anam’s advanced filtering engine detects spamming; spoofing, faking and spam content and prevents it from reaching a customer’s mobile phone, therefore improving a user’s experience, reducing levels of churn and protecting the operator’s network.
Among the innovative new detection techniques that Asiacell will benefit from are one-step user reporting and trend analysis developed by Anam to facilitate an automated detection and blocking of new emerging fraud and spam campaigns. The new scope of delivery also extends the Bye-Bye service which allows customers to block calls and SMS messages from unwanted numbers such as bullies, harassers, etc.
Asiacell, the first mobile telecommunications company in Iraq, was established in the city of Sulaimaniyah, Iraq in 1999 by entrepreneur Mr. Faruk Mustafa Rasool. Today it has a wide network that provides coverage for all of the country’s provinces in the north and the south and is the largest private Iraqi company, serving over 10.7 million customers and connecting the Iraqi nation together.
Amer Sunna, Asiacell CEO commented: “We have an on-going commitment to our customers to protect them from spam content and attacks and, having worked with Anam since 2010, we knew that they were the right partner for us as we upgrade our systems to defend against increasingly complex and evolving SMS spam attacks. Their experience and knowledge of the market, combined with a solution that is able to meet our needs not only in terms of ability to detect and block spam but with a seamless integration into our current network means that we are able to identify potential spammers as early as possible and deal with it appropriately.”
Louise O’Sullivan, Chief Executive Officer of Anam Technologies said: “Mobile operators are seeing increasing levels of spam and unwanted text messages being terminated on their network, which is not only damaging the operator’s reputation with the customer but could also lead to lost revenues. Asiacell is at the forefront of this challenge and we are delighted to be supporting them as they proactively seek innovative new ways to protect its customers and networks against increasingly sophisticated SMS Spam.”
Asiacell is a leading provider of quality mobile telecommunications services in Iraq with over 10.7 million customers. Asiacell was the first mobile telecommunications provider in Iraq to achieve nationwide coverage, offering its services across all of Iraq’s 18 governorates including the national capital Baghdad and all other major Iraqi cities. Asiacell’s network covers 99% of the Iraqi population.
In November 2013, Asiacell won top prize in ‘Corporate Finance’ category for its record-breaking IPO, at ACT 2013 awards during The Association of Corporate Treasurers Middle East (ACTME) conference held in Dubai.
