At a business networking lunch organised in Kuala Lumpur by Enterprise Ireland and attended by Irish Ambassador to Malaysia, Eamonn Hickey and Irish Minister Patrick O’Donovan , Anam Asia today announced it’s hosting of the 9th meeting of GSMA Wholesale Agreements and Solutions Group (WAS), which is expected to attract over 1,200 international telecoms participants into Kuala Lumpur (KL). The 4-day event will take place in the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre Dublin from 8 – 11 April 2019 and will include a gala hospitality evening for all delegates.
The GSMA is a global industry body representing the interests of nearly 800 mobile operators and 250 companies from the broader mobile ecosystem, including handset and device makers, software companies, equipment providers and Internet companies. This event is a meeting of the GSMA WAS Group, the forum for GSMA members from the mobile network operators and vendor communities to work on commercial solutions to support the rollout and maintenance of international roaming and interworking services. It is here that delegates will have the unique opportunity to reach their wider mobile community, fostering further collaboration. Not just on a local scale, but a global one as well.

The GSMA selected KL as the location for their WAS#9 Event based on several factors, such as the global accessibility and stability of the location and the quality of the city’s centrally located Convention Centre facility. In the past, this meeting has been held in such places as Bangkok, Brussels, Dubai & Marrakesh and hosting an international event of this stature in Kuala Lumpur is a significant honour. The decision by GSMA on its choice of WAS#9 host and location includes Anam’s previous and very successful hosting of the WAS#4 event in Dublin in 2019. The event is estimated to bring in RM12 million in revenue for the local economy, in business tourism alone. In view of this, Anam Asia has also secured support from the Malaysian Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB).

Delighted to be bringing the group to KL, Conor Devine, CEO of Anam Asia said “We’re delighted to play host to this major mobile operator event. On a macro-level, it will elevate Malaysia’s status as a “go-to” telecoms hub for international investors, as well as boost spending in the local tourism industry. Anam Asia will also benefit through hosting this major gathering of GSMA WAS#9 mobile industry leaders as it will bring existing and potential customers right to our doorstep. It’s of enormous significance in the context of our business development strategy and reflects Anam’s strong position in the global industry.”

Anam first established its representative office in Kuala Lumpur in 2016 to build out its Sales, Support & Managed Services capabilities in Asia. Today, Anam Asia’s KL office supports the company’s presence not only in Malaysia where it partners with Maxis and Apigate, but also in Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Macau and Hong Kong.
