Anam Technologies  announce the Non – Executive Board appointment of Professor Gerry Byrne, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, (former Principal and Dean of Engineering at University College Dublin).

Professor Byrne has a world leading profile in Engineering, and is highly acclaimed by industry, academic and government institutions; from the EU, US, China and Germany: including – Senior Advisor to the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and an Advisor to the President, Germany and Director of Fraunhofer UK Ltd, Past-President of the Collége International pour L’Étude des Techniques de Production Méchanique (C.I.R.P), also representing Ireland as a Member of the European Research Advisory Board (EURAB) and former member of the Conference of Rectors and Presidents of Technical Universities (CRE) in the EU. He is also the recipient of the prestigious Taylor Research Medal of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, USA in recognition of his outstanding research contributions. He is an honorary Professor of Engineering at Tianjin University, PR China.

Prior to taking up his professorship Professor Byrne led a division of Daimler Benz AG in Germany in the area of Manufacturing Processes and the Environment within the Corporate Research and Development Directorate.

About Prof. Gerry Byrne:

Professor Gerry Byrne is the former Principal of Engineering and Architecture and Dean of Engineering in University College Dublin UCD (to September 2014) and has been the Professor of Mechanical Engineering in UCD since 1993.

Prior to taking up his professorship he led a division of Daimler Benz AG in Germany in the area of Manufacturing Processes and the Environment within the Corporate Research and Development Directorate.

Professor Byrne is widely published and has a world leading international profile in Engineering. He is Past-President of the Collége International pour L’Étude des Techniques de Production Méchanique (C.I.R.P.). He is also a Past-President of the Institution of Engineers of Ireland (2000/01) and a Past-President of the Irish Academy of Engineering (IAE, 2002 – 2003). He is Director of the Manufacturing Research Centre at UCD.

He chairs the R&D Boards of a number of Irish companies. He established a new start-up, GB Innovation Ltd. in 2014 which works with companies and organisation in support of their R&D and Innovation agendas. He represented Ireland as a Member of the European Research Advisory Board (EURAB) and is a former member of the Conference of Rectors and Presidents of Technical Universities (CRE) in the EU. Professor Byrne is a Senior Advisor to the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (and an Advisor to the President), Germany and is a Director of Fraunhofer UK Ltd. He is a Fellow of the Irish Academy of Engineering, the Royal Academy of Engineering, UK and of the German National Academy of Science and Engineering, “acatech” and sits on their international board.

Prof. Byrne  holds an honorary doctorate in recognition of his outstanding international contribution as an innovator in engineering. He was awarded the Gold Ring of the German Society of Engineering (VDI) in recognition of his insights into the fundamentals of material removal processes. He is also the recipient of the prestigious Taylor Research Medal of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, USA in recognition of his outstanding research contributions. He is an honorary Professor of Engineering at Tianjin University, PR China. Professor Byrne is a graduate in Engineering from the Dublin Institute of Technology, Trinity College Dublin and the Technical University Berlin.
